January 2024 Meetings

Program Night : Fiber as Art Therapy: Weaving as Physical and Mental Therapy at the Friedman House, Oberon Waters

Thursday, January 11, 2024
7:00 to 9:00 pm CDT
See GoogleGroup, members-only pages, or newsletter for Zoom link and address
The business meeting part will be over Zoom as well as in person

In this presentation, Oberon will discuss the intersection of art therapy, fiber arts, and disability, and the ways that it can benefit all of us to participate in these communities at their junction. This talk will also cover misconceptions about art therapy, misconceptions about blindness, and how important weaving is to a community of people that wouldn’t typically be considered.

Oberon Waters is a classically trained artist focusing on graphic design, illustration, self-publishing, and gallery art. He’s also a spinner, a weaver, and a teacher. Whether embarking on a new art project or building a customer-focused data management system, Oberon embraces new challenges and looks for impact-driven solutions. Passionate about problem solving and person-to-person communication, he serves as weaving instructor at a supportive living community for adults who are blind.
