Jill Hilbrook of Brookmore Creations will be coming to Austin on January 11-13, 2019, to teach us how to effectively spin cotton. Jill is not only an expert cotton spinner, but she has extensively researched the history of the fiber and written an ebook called All About Cotton. Friday morning she will provide general beginner spinning instruction, which includes playing with wool, drafting, twisting and spinning a spindle. The goal is to have fun and learn new skills.
Then on Friday afternoon, she will begin “Comprehensive Cotton Spinning,” which includes techniques for spinning cotton, adjusting the spinning wheel for cotton, preparing and carding cotton, making punis, spinning on a Takhli spindle, spinning the long draw and plying.
Pricing will allow you to sign up for just the beginner Friday morning class, skipping the beginner session, or attending both. Registration begins November 1, 2018.
Jill will also give a presentation on “The History of Cotton” at our 7:00 pm, Thursday, January 10, 2019, guild meeting.
