When: February 3 and 4, 2024
Where: Laura Bush Community Library, 9411 Bee Caves Rd, Austin, TX 78733
WSSA’s annual FREE members-helping-members workshop is here again!
What is SHARE? Here’s the FAQ!
We’ll have looms setup for weaving (including, possibly, a Glimakra Ideal counterbalance loom), a round-robin weaving activity (registration required to participate), spinning and plying demonstrations, and a library of books, fiber, yarn and dye stuffs.
Your fellow weavers and spinners will be there to demo, chat, and help with those kinds of questions and knotty problems that only seeing it and feeling it can help solve. Please join us to ask or answer questions, pipe in with suggestions, see what others have been up to with their craft, or just hang out for the fun of it. We’ll cap each day with snacks and a fiber-related movie from 3-4 p.m.
Though this event is free for WSSA members, we do ask that you register. It’ll help volunteers manage their time, let us know what you want assistance with, and allow us to communicate with any round-robin participants. As a thanks to the library, we are asking members, if possible, to give a monetary donation to the library. (You can do that through registration, or in cash at the event.)
WSSA members should register for SHARE here.
We will welcome walk-ins from the public to observe some demonstrations.
SHARE is a Weavers & Spinners Society of Austin (WSSA) tradition, born from necessity when an ice storm forced the guild to cancel a guest-speaker-led workshop it already had reserved space for. Guild leaders quickly took matters into their own hands and turned lemons into lemonade (or would that be ice into ice cream?) with a last-minute round robin weaving event. It has since evolved into a free, members-teaching-members workshop – a way to share knowledge and help newcomers and beginners to get started. For more information, see the website.
