Program Night Meeting – Spinning and Weaving with Mohair, MIckey Stam
Thursday, September 14, 2023
7:00 to 9:00 pm CDT
See GoogleGroup, members-only pages, or newsletter for Zoom link
When most people think about mohair, they picture fuzzy blankets and looms jammed up with sticky yarn. Over the last three years, Mickey Stam has researched and experimented with mohair to prove that this luxury fiber has a wide range of possibilities for both spinners and handweavers, from the softness of a scarf to the durability of upholstery. In addition she has found that mohair’s qualities are preserved when it is used only in the weft, making weaving a piece of cake. This presentation is an overview of her findings.
Mickey recently completed the second level of the Handweavers Guild of America’s Certificate of Excellence. She has been weaving and spinning for 20 years. Her book “Innovative Weaving: a guide for study groups” is available on Amazon.
