September 2021 Meetings

Program Night — Handweaving.net
Thursday, September 9, 2021
7:00 – 9:00 pm
Zoom link will be sent out via the Googlegroup

Handweaving.net is an archive containing over 60,000 modern and historical weaving drafts as well as digitized versions of old textiles documents produced by Ralph Griswold.

Created by Kris Bruland, a software architect near Seattle, Washington.  Handweaving.net is still going strong after nearly 17 years.

Kris first became interested in weaving around 2003 after acquiring a computer dobby loom and weaving from old drafts originally written in quill pen handwriting.  Spurred by his success, he turned his programming talent towards creating a custom software package to be able to weave on his loom from a handheld computer, an early mobile device.  This used WIF (Weaving Information Format) files, a utilitarian format that’s still in use today for exchanging drafts between various weaving software packages.

Kris will talk to us about this and more at our September Program Night meeting.
There are no hands-on meetings while the rec centers are closed due to COVID.
