Program Night —Molly Koehn
Thursday, Oct 14, 2021
7:00 – 9:00 pm
Zoom link will be sent out via the Googlegroup
Molly is an environmental artist and designer who currently lives and works in Houston, TX, where the endless construction and expansion provide constant fuel to her practice. Molly received an MFA with an emphasis in fibers from Arizona State University (2017), and her current bodies of work carry on the delicate, expressive qualities of her background and BFA in drawing form Fort Hays State University (2013). Melding a practice of drawing, weaving, and sculptural installation, Molly’s work examines idealizations of nature. She responds to city landscaping and structure through material and construction, exploring why we choose to seemingly improve the aesthetic appearance of our surroundings by often eradicating the “natural” in preference of the artificial.
Molly teaches workshops regularly and is an instructor at Art League Houston, Fort Hays State University, and Stetson University. She is also the chair for the next Contemporary Handweavers of Texas (CHT) Conference to be held in June, 2023. She’ll speak to us both about her journey as an artist and about CHT and the 2023 conference
There are no hands-on meetings while the rec centers are closed due to COVID.
