On Thursday, October 11, at 7:00 pm, at Northwest Rec Center, we will meet Scharine Kirchoff , who will talk about “Weaving and Dyeing in the Colorful Spirit of an Ancient Craft.” She will cover the textile culture of Okinawa (Ryukyu Islands), Japan), the development of Ryukyu kasuri ikat weaving, the legends associated with weaving bashofu bast fibers, and the natural dyes utilized in these colorful and ancient textile art processes.
Her class the following weekend on Kasuri Ikat Weaving is now full. So this is a good opportunity of get an overview of ikat dyeing and weaving, along with the associated cultural aspects.
Come at 6:30 pm for socializing, with the meeting starting at 7:00 pm. Remember to bring your show and tell! Look forward to seeing you there.
