Traditionally, we hold our annual WSSA meeting in June and celebrate the beginning of summer with
a picnic. With the coronavirus restrictions still in place, we’re planning a Zoom meeting and virtual picnic on Thursday, June 11th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. We have great program planned and the meeting should be lots of fun! Check the Google group for the Zoom link or email us at wssaustin.org@gmail.com.
Picnic
Let’s have Zoom picnic with all the trimmings! Plan to have favorite picnic food and drink prepared for our meeting. barbeque, potato salad, cole slaw, lemonade, etc. – bring your favorite dishes.
Yarn Bombing
The program with include photos of our yarn bombing challenge. As areminder, here is Mickey’s description of the yarn bomb challenge —
“Yarn bombing always involves colorful yarn wrapped around something
unexpected in a public space. It’s similar to graffiti, but not as
permanent. Since we are currently being discouraged from spending
time in public spaces, let’s look around our smaller worlds for ways
that we can brighten our environment in unexpected ways. I’m thinking
about things I can do in my front yard to bring smiles to all the
neighbors walking by.
There really aren’t restrictions on technique. You could use handspun
or commercial yarn, you could weave, crochet, knit, felt, whatever.
The only skill is figuring out how to attach your piece and that
doesn’t even have to be neat. The only requirements are that you use
yarn or fiber to cover something unexpected and that the process gives
you pleasure and healthy distraction. We want to record all of our
efforts by taking photos with your phone or camera.”
Send your images to Mickey and she will put together a slide show for our June meeting. Some of the eye-catching images will be posted on Facebook and here on our website. Let’s see whateveryone can do to make our world a little brighter. The deadline for sending images to Mickey is June 8th but don’t delay!
Share Time
Let’s do something a little different with our June meeting Share Time. For this program night, plan to wear something made by a WSSA member or other fiber artist. In addition to sharing YOUR current project, each of us will have time to show another artist’s work and explain why it’s meaningful.
