Some of the benefits of becoming a WSSA member are:
Programs
We explore all aspects of weaving, spinning and dyeing. Tapestry weaving, split shed weaving, ergonomics, mohair and silk. Eco-printing, charkhas, dying with marigolds and cochineal – there’s so much to learn. Maybe we’ll even get to pet a sheep or llama or two.
Programs are posted monthly on our website, and you can get an overview here.
Our Study Groups
In our NEW Tapestry Study group, members will learn about tools, techniques, making creative patterns/looms and then practice making sample shapes and designs to enable participants to learn a new weaving skill with minimal investment of money.
The Jane Stafford Study Group works through episodes of the JST School of Weaving and shares our fabulous results. We also have a Facebook group where you can show off your work and ask questions. A great place to learn!
Explorer’s Club, our weaving study group, will continue exploring all aspects of weaving. This is an opportunity to share what we are working on with other guild members.
The Spinning Study Group meets twice a month, once to explore either a spinning technique or a breed study, as determined at the beginning of the year by input from the group. The other is a more informal Sit N Spin where the group spins, talks about spinning, dreams about spinning, answers any question someone may have about spinning, and visit and enjoy the company.
A summary of study group meeting dates is on our website.
Books and Equipment
We have and extensive lending and reference library, and offer free rental of weaving and spinning equipment. We are planning to hold an equipment garage sale of guild and members’ equipment this spring and to hold regular borrowing hours at the storage unit for signing out equipment and books! You have access to hundreds of books and magazines, manual and electric spinning wheels, rigid heddle, table and floor looms and all kinds of accessories for free with your membership!
You can see the catalog of books and equipment here.
Etsy Shop and Guild Sale
We have several opportunities to sell (or buy) your hand made goods. Our guild sale will be held in conjunction with the annual West Austin Studio Tour.
You can find our Etsy shop here.
Newsletter, GoogleGroup and Facebook Group
You can ask questions, share projects and ideas in both our GoogleGroup and Facebook group. We also have an inspiring and informative bimonthly newsletter.
