Local fiber and dyestuffs is the theme of an exhibit at this year’s Weavers and Spinners Society of Austin stop on the WEST Studio Tour the weekends of May 13-14 and 20-21, 2017. Included will be a silent auction for a large shawl spun and woven at the Kid ‘N Ewe fiber-to-shawl demo last November. Six members of the guild (Eileen Thompson, Sharon Bramblett, Annabell Duncan, Penny Skelley, Sandy Curtis, and Bethany Hebbard) spun the fiber from Sharon’s llama for the weft, while Mickey Stam wove the shawl.
The loom had been warped in advance mostly with yarn spun by Sharon from one of her llamas, while the purple stripes were spun by Mickey from Old Oaks Ranch alpaca. The purple is from lichen she gathered in West Virginia.
The proceeds from the auction will go to the WSSA scholarship fund. You have an opportunity to bid on the shawl and other items during the Friday Opening and through the two weekends. The winning bids will be chosen at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 20, 2017.
