WSSA SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

PURPOSE
The WSSA scholarship is intended to assist guild members in furthering the craft of weaving, spinning, dyeing and related fiber arts by providing funds to be used towards relevant classes, workshops, courses, and conferences.

ELIGIBILITY
The scholarship is open to all WSSA members in good standing after their first year of membership.

Please note that submission of an application for a scholarship is not a guarantee that one will be awarded and that no member will be eligible for more than one scholarship award in a three year period.

AMOUNT
Typically WSSA does not award more than $500 per year for scholarships. However, the Board reserves the right to increase the amount to cover a specific class, conference, workshop etc. as detailed in the member’s application form as long as there are sufficient funds available to award.

REQUIREMENTS
Scholarship recipients will be required to share their learning with WSSA membership.  This can be accomplished in different ways and applicants should detail how they will accomplish that in their scholarship application.

Some suggestions are:

  • Write an article for the guild newsletter
  • Make a presentation about the experience to guild membership
  • Demonstrate a learned technique to guild membership
  • Lead a guild study group on the topic

APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants must complete the WSSA Scholarship Form and then email the completed form to president@wssaustin.org.

Applicants may attach further information if they wish, but it is not necessary.

NOTIFICATION
The application will be reviewed by the WSSA Board of Directors. If additional documentation is required, a Board Member will contact the applicant, otherwise the WSSA Board will notify the applicant if their application has been approved.
