Come meet us at the Faire!



The Austin Maker Faire will be returning this year to the Travis County Expo Center.  This will be our 5th Maker Faire, and our second big event of the year– and it  promises to be an exciting one.   Weaving will be demonstrated on a floor loom as well as a Cricket with both handspun warp and weft.  The Ashford Traditional wheel will once again be on hand for spinning demonstrations.

MakerFaire is vibrant and diverse, with wide appeal to all ages and interests.  Exhibits range from pottery to aerial dance, robots, screen printing, dyeing with beets, a tour of the solar system in a Planetarium… the list goes on!

Our pop-up gallery is back as part of the 3rd West Austin Studio Tour!  WEST is a free, self-guided tour.  We will have vendors and demos. Stay tuned for more details and a list of vendors.

Spinning and Weaving Week at City Hall Plaza

WSSA will be bringing spinning wheels and looms to the lunchtime crowd  in downtown Austin from 11-2 on October 7th during Spinning and Weaving week.  SWWEEK

WSSA is having a gallery show during the month of September!

Featuring the work of twenty-three members of the Weavers and Spinners Society of Austin and ranging from handwoven housewares and clothing to felted rocks.


Opening night : Thursday, September 5th, 2013
5:30pm to 7pm
There will be wine, hors d’oeuvres and live music.

Gallery hours:
11am – 3pm, Tuesday- Saturday  (‘til 8 on Thursday)
Admission is free to the gallery and the opening!

The Weavers and Spinners Society of Austin will have a gallery and studio in this year’s WEST Austin Studio Tour on April 27-28 and May 5-6 weekends, from 11 am- 6 pm, at a private home, 2802 Benbrook Drive, in Austin.  An Opening on Friday, April 26, from 6:30-9:00 pm will include wine and light refreshments.

Guild members will demonstrate Theo Moorman, ikat weaving, felting, dyeing, spinning, and weaving design software.   The gallery will include paintings by Shannon Hamann as guest artist, as well as wearable art, home décor items, and some purely fantastical pieces created by the weavers, spinners, dyers, and felters in the guild.
