WSSA participated in the 19th Annual Austin Bamboo Festival that was held September 24 and 25 at Zilker Garden.
This is a terrific venue for demonstrations. We had lots of people stopping by to watch us weave and spin. Eileen Thompson, Sharon Bramblett and Marylou Trantham brought their looms and wheels to the event. Ruth Taylor brought her Inkle Loom samples for display. Charleen Searight helped “man” the booth. Meg Wilson was kind enough to make more Kumihimo braiding disks for the event even though she was out of town that week-end. The kids loved them…we gave all of them away.
We had a wonderful information board. Marie Hauff helped Sue Plattsmier put together a “science board” with lots of information about bamboo fiber. One long-time member of the Bamboo Society stopped by and said that he had been looking “forever” for the information that we had up and was grateful that we had a Reference Sheet for him to take.
